ABOUT ABOUT

“Love makes your soul crawl out from its hiding place.” ~ Zora Neale Hurston

“Freedom From” or “Freedom To”  . . . From Hurston's seminal novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God that speaks to how we can learn to love ourselves and others . . . To Butler's powerful morality tale, Parable of the Talents, together we will learn how to forge community through exploring, expanding and enhancing “love and relationships”, engaging in themes such as: “alienation and transcendence; violence and spirituality; slavery and freedom; and separation and community”.

"There’s a song that wants to sing itself through us, and we’ve just got to be available.”  ~ Joanna Macy

Join us to read, write and reflect together upon these intertwined human concepts found in works of two award-winning female novelists . . . who just happen to be Black. Their novels harbor strong, creative and intellectually curious female protagonists. Women who are committed to building inclusive communities and open-minded enough to live beyond the bounds of “polite society” of the past, present and future. The compelling ancestral voices of these two novelists call to the Divine Feminine within each of us, asking that we come together and “make it right" in a society whose very fabric has been "torn asunder" from the very beginning”.

“Consider - We are born, not with purpose, but with potential.” Octavia Butler
